Yukon Fishing Regulations 2008-09

The 2008-09 Yukon Fishing Regulations Summaries are now available through licence vendors and other outlets throughout the territory. They are also available as pdf's:

Important Changes for 2008-09

Family Fishing Weekend, July 4-7th

Yukon residents may fish without an angling licence during Family Fishing Weekend, July 4th through 7th this year. Anglers must still comply with all fishing regulations, including catch and possession limits, and must be able to produce proof of residency if asked by a Conservation or Fisheries Officer.

Yukon residents fishing for salmon are still required to possess a Yukon Angling Licence and a Salmon Catch Card during this period.

Special Management Waters, Categories I & J

To assist anglers compliance with the regulations, information regarding hook restrictions on the Yukon and Tatshenshini river systems has been moved from the General Regulations section of this summary into new
categories (I and J) under Special Management Waters. No changes have been made to the hook restrictions themselves.

Minto Lake now a Special Management Water

Minto Lake near Mayo has been added to category C under Special Management Waters. Under this category, catch and possession limits are set at 1 for lake trout, 2 for arctic grayling and 4 for northern pike, with size limits as outlined on page 21 of the regulations summary.

Arctic grayling catch limits for Pine Lake and Pine Creek

The retention of arctic grayling in these waters near Haines Junction was restricted a number of years ago to allow for the recovery of stocks. Catch limits are now 2 arctic grayling/day on Pine Lake which is a Special Management Water listed under Category C, and 5 arctic grayling/day on
Pine Creek under the general catch and possession limits.

Additional Notes

Fishing Licences for Alaskan Residents

Alaskan residents fishing in the Yukon may purchase their licences at Yukon resident rates. To qualify, they must produce a current Alaska Resident Sport Fishing licence and government-issued photo identification.

Barbless Hooks

Barbless hooks are recommended on all Yukon waters, but are regulated on Conservation Waters, some Special Management Waters, and on the Yukon River watershed (July 1 - October 15) and the Tatshenshini River watershed (June 1 - November 30).
