The Stewart River Habitat Protection Area Draft Management Plan
The Devil's Elbow and Big Island areas are considered to be one of the main moose calving sites for moose populations of the lower Stewart River valley between Fraser Falls and the McQuesten River confluence.
The Mayo and District Renewable Resources Council and the First Nation of Na-Cho Nyäk Dun called for these two land parcels to be protected as habit protection areas.
The draft management plan (PDF 13MB) for the areas was generated by comments made at community meetings and the current draft has been reviewed at community meetings.
A public meeting to hear final public comments on the draft plan is scheduled for Thursday May 29 at the Mayo and District Renewable Resources Council office.
If you have any comments that you would like forwarded, please contact either Barb Shannon at the Mayo and District Renewable Resources Council 996- 2942 or Dawna Hope at the Na-Cho Nyak Dun Lands Office - 996- 2415 or Mark O'Donoghue at the Mayo Environment Yukon office - 996-2162.
